AFTERCARE

Aftercare

Aftercare starts as soon as your tattoo is done. I will, in most cases apply a bandage that prevents bacteria from getting into your skin. It also protects the tattoo from rubbing on your clothes and getting irritated.

Keep the bandage on for 3-5 days. It will help absorb any fluid or excess ink that leak from the tattoo.

Before removing the bandage wash your hands first with lukewarm water and soap. Then gently wash the tattoo with anti bacterial soap and/or water.

Pat your skin dry with a clean soft cloth or kitchen paper. Use a small amount of a mild, fragrance free lotion to keep the tattoo moisturized. Should the bandage come off before 3-5 days then use a small amount of aquaphor or tattoo ointment until day 5, then commence with the unscented lotion mentioned above. For the following 2-6 weeks after the appointment wash your tattoo as instructed 2-3 times a day and keep it slightly moisturized, just enough so it doesn't dry out.

While your tattoo heals, you should:

  • wear sun-protective clothing whenever you go outside

  • contact me or your doctor if you have any signs of infection or other problems

  • wear breathable clothes

  • avoid direct sunlight

You shouldn’t:

  • cover your tattoo with sunblock until it’s fully healed

  • scratch or pick at the tattoo

  • wear tight clothing over the tattoo

  • go swimming or immerse your body in water (showers are fine) for 3 weeks
